Carnival – Murgas Contest – 3rd phase
Carnival – Murgas Contest (3rd phase) of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival at Santa Catalina Park.
The murgas contest of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival is one of the historical events of the festival, whose first edition dates back to 1977.
Murgas, groups that in their songs fine-tune criticism of the different social and political events that occurred throughout the year, bring the ironic and satirical note of current affairs to the festival. In addition, they participate very actively and are present in its most prominent events. They experience the contest as the event for which they prepare in their rehearsals throughout the year.
The event takes place entirely within the carnival grounds before a large audience and, in the modern era of the Carnival, it will for the first time encompass four nights of preliminary phases and a grand final with the highest-scoring murgas.
