Cinema — «Africa 21st Century: Tradition, Culture and Modernity»

16 April @ 18:30 - 20:00

Cinema — Africa 21st century: tradition, culture and modernity at the San Pedro Mártir de Verona Hospital Church, Telde.

Africa 21st century: tradition, culture and modernity is an important space within our Telde Book Fair 2026. This approach to the continent through the screening of three short films directed by the Canarian filmmaker and writer Susi Alvarado, which reflect the rawest African reality, is the prelude to a panel where, through the perspective of journalist Pepe Naranjo, narrator Bönaí Capote, activist and political scientist Teodoro Bondyale, editor and narrator Ana Cristina Herreros, and coordinated by Susi Alvarado, they will delve into the realities of this plural continent. We invite you to take the pulse of Africa on this enriching day!

Short film program:
– Chadad's Letter (2006): Chronicle about the implementation of Postal Mail in Sahrawi refugee camps. Duration 6 minutes.
– When it arrives (2014): It brings us closer to the drama of emigration and its possible consequences in the experience of a small group of young Africans who risk their lives to reach the Canary Islands in search of a new life. Duration 12 minutes.
– The Ñ dresses in black (2015): An approach to Equatorial Guinea through the testimony of some of its writers and artists, who show us the reality of that beautiful country in Black Africa where Spanish beats so strongly. Duration 47 minutes.

Aimed at adult audiences. Free admission until full capacity is reached.
