Bartolomé Maximiliano Moré Gutiérrez (Benny Moré), one of the most transcendental Cuban musicians. His wide range for interpretation, and his innate capacity for musical composition have placed him at the zenith of Cuban culture. His recordings have continued to be heard over time and his life has catapulted him as an authentic legend.
In early 1953, upon his return from Mexico, while reflecting on how to organize his band, Benny Moré was offered to record for the Cuban record label Panart, accompanied by the already famous Sonora Matancera of Rogelio Martínez. He flatly refused, since, according to his own words, «that sound had never sounded right to him» apparently because he was used to feeling supported by all the sonic power and good arrangements of bands made up of brass instruments. Already with well-earned fame and prestige, he decided to form his own orchestra. His first Giant Band with him as director, composer, and singer, his beloved tribe, as he used to call it, with Cuban percussion. This is the show that the Gran Canaria Big Band will revive on different stages.
