Concert – Gisele Jackson & The Shu-Shu’s
Concert by Stéphane Galland & The Rhythm Hunters at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Jazz Corner.
‘The Rhythm Hunters’, the new project by Belgian drummer Stéphane Galland, is born from an intense personal exploration: integrating rhythmic principles from different world cultures into a unique and vibrant musical language. But beyond the individual quest, it also arises from the desire to share these concepts with other musicians, thus creating a collective experience of discovery and creation.
Thanks to his teaching and research work at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (Royal Conservatory of Brussels), Stéphane Galland he has been able to develop these ideas alongside some of the most promising talents at the institution. From this collaboration comes The Rhythm Hunters, a kind of natural continuation of his previous project (the mystery of) Kem, with which he shares both the research process and the artistic ambition.
The project's focus is clear: to explore rhythmic structures that, although they may seem complex or unusual, transform into a fluid, natural, and deeply expressive musical discourse. To achieve this, the group immerses itself in intense collective work, where each member must appropriate these new concepts and translate them with fluency and personality.
The sextet that brings this adventure to life is made up of musicians from different parts of the world: Japanese saxophonist Shoko Igarashi (tenor saxophone), the Belgian Sylvain Debaisieux (alto saxophone, also present in the mystery of), the French trumpeter Pierre-Antoine Savoyat, the Tunisian pianist Wajdi Riahi and the Dutch bassist Louise van den Heuvel. At the front, Stéphane Galland on drums, also composer of a repertoire that proposes a journey through sound territories where the hunt for rhythms is an open invitation.
