Concert – «Rembrandt Trio»
Concert — Rembrandt Trio at the Jerónimo Saavedra Hall, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Jazz Corner.
Formed fifteen years ago, since its inception the Rembrandt Trio has been one of the most renowned jazz groups in the Netherlands. The trio enjoys international recognition for its artistic curiosity and innovative collaborations seeking the future of jazz. They use their passion for jazz, classical music, and Middle Eastern music to create forms and sounds that are deeply innovative yet universally appealing.
The trio performs concerts mainly outside their home country, and one of the most special recent performances was the double concert with the Chick Corea Trio at the legendary Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London, as well as the inaugural concert of the Taichung Jazz Festival in Taiwan for 25,000 jazz enthusiasts.
An interesting aspect of the group's history is the introduction of historical instruments. In 2014, the Dutch National Musical Instrument Foundation commissioned the construction of a fortepiano (a replica of a 1790 Walter, Mozart's piano) for Rembrandt Frerichs. Shortly after, Tony Overwater began playing the violone, an instrument from the viola da gamba family, and Vinsent Planjer started building his Whisper Kit, a collection of historical instruments from different cultures. When the trio uses this instrumentation, their sound is softer and more transparent, making them a perfect ally for early music performers and Middle Eastern musicians.
Recently, the trio has focused on collaborations with Iranian musicians. All these projects with some of the most renowned musicians of the Persian tradition (Kayhan Kalhor, Hossein Alizadeh, Mohammad Motamedi) have been met with great enthusiasm and have been described as revolutionary by the international press.
