Vecindario Half Marathon: the only race where the wind also competes
The Mayor Camilo Sánchez Half Marathon or Vecindario Half Marathon had its first edition in 2001, under the name Gran Canaria Half Marathon. After four consecutive editions, the event was not held again until 2011. Since then, it has been held uninterruptedly (except in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic).
Throughout the years, the event has featured numerous world-class athletes such as: Martín Fiz and Antonio Peña (World Marathon Champions) 🏃🔝
In 2016, an agreement was made to link the race with the Gran Canaria Marathon, so that participants could use it as training for the main event.
Furthermore, the race has a social component, as in each edition it collaborates with different NGOs or institutions to distribute part of the benefits to the most disadvantaged.
This 2025, the race will be nocturnal 💫, under the moon of Vecindario, after the great success of the previous year.
And the wind, which never misses its appointment in this municipality.
