III Festival of Amazigh Music and Culture
Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria prepares to become, once again, the epicenter of Amazigh cultural identity and memory with the celebration of the III Amazigh Music and Culture Festival 2976/2026, an event that transcends the artistic to delve into the historical, the educational, and the communal. The event will take place on April 17 and 18 in the Atalaya–Tasawt enclave, consolidating itself as one of Gran Canaria's most unique cultural proposals. .
The festival is born with the aim of reclaiming and disseminating the Amazigh heritage in the Canary Islands, a legacy that forms an essential part of the archipelago's identity. Under the motto of Amazigh Spring – Tafsut Tamazight, the program combines tradition and contemporaneity, bringing the public closer to an ancient culture through multiple languages.
Workshops and activities
One of the pillars of the festival will be its participatory offering, designed for all audiences; proposals seek to transmit knowledge and generate a direct connection with cultural practices that have endured for centuries. Among the activities, workshops stand out, such as:
Crafts and design
Amazigh textiles and traditional tattooing
Whistled languages of the Canary Islands
Traditional music and its ancestral instruments
Traditional Imazighen games
The program is completed with spaces for reflection and dissemination. Conferences will be led by specialists such as Masin Ferkal and Rumen Sosa, who will address different aspects of Amazigh culture from a contemporary perspective.
In parallel, the public will be able to enjoy exhibitions that include painting, with works by Domingo Díaz Barrios, and pottery displays, disciplines that reflect the aesthetic and symbolic richness of this tradition.
One of the highlights will be the screening of the short film Mujeres de Lava (Women of Lava), directed by Patricia González Adrián and Adriana Suances. The piece offers a sensitive and committed perspective, highlighting the role of women within the cultural and social context.
Music as a central theme
Music will take a leading role with a lineup that brings together different sound expressions linked to the Amazigh world and its fusion with other traditions; concerts promise a sound journey that connects the ancestral with the contemporary, reinforcing the festive nature of the gathering. Performing will be:
Rogelio Botanz and Percuteras de Garaldea
Larbi Mejjaoui
Alegranza Folk
Tambor de Cabra
The festival is organized by the Santa Brígida City Council, and financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Cultural groups such as the Canarian Amazigh Culture Association AZAR collaborate. This institutional and citizen alliance demonstrates the commitment to preserve and disseminate a living cultural heritage. For two days, Santa Brígida will become a meeting place where tradition, knowledge, and celebration go hand in hand.
