Opera — «SIMON BOCCANEGRA»
Opera — SIMON BOCCANEGRA at the Pérez Galdós Theater, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Simon Boccanegra is an opera in three acts (plus a prologue) that combines political intrigue with family drama. Set in 14th-century Genoa, it tells the story of Simon Boccanegra, a former corsair who becomes Doge (ruler) of the city. Years earlier, he had a secret daughter with Maria, daughter of his rival Jacopo Fiesco, but the child mysteriously disappeared.
When Simon assumes power, he discovers that Amelia, a young noblewoman, is actually his lost daughter. However, political tensions between the patricians and plebeians, along with Fiesco's enmity and the betrayal of the ambitious Paolo, threaten to destroy everything. Finally, Simon and Fiesco reconcile before the Doge, poisoned by Paolo, dies peacefully after securing his daughter's future and the stability of the republic.
