Presentation – Monograph «Library of Artists of the Canary Islands»
Presentation of the Monograph vol. 87 «Canarian Artists» Library» at the Municipal Library of Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria.
The Public Library of Santa Brígida, under the Department of Culture, hosts the January 23, at 7:30 p.m., the presentation of monograph volume number 87 of the Canarian Artists' Library (BAC), dedicated to the artist from Santa Brígida Marta Mariño. The event will feature the participation of the art historian Ángeles Alemán, also from Santa Brígida and author of the study accompanying the publication.
This new title from the BAC, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands under the direction of Carlos Díaz-Bertrana, approaches Marta Mariño's work from a critical and rigorous perspective. Ángeles Alemán defines her work as «fascinating and at the same time disconcerting» and emphasizes her condition as «a painter, above all», for whom the act of painting implies «uncertainty and reasonable doubt at crossroads, in the constant search for the ultimate essence of painting».
The Canary Islands Artists' Library celebrates 35 years researching and disseminating the work of the main protagonists of art in the Archipelago. Since its first issue, dedicated to the sculptor José Luján Pérez in 1989, the collection has consolidated itself as a benchmark in the documentation and analysis of regional art. With this volume, the BAC now adds 36 publications dedicated to women artists, reinforcing its commitment to making visible their contribution to island art.
The book offers a prismatic approach to Marta Mariño's artistic legacy and positions her as a key figure in Canarian art and culture. With more than 200 pages, it includes abundant graphic material, photographs and reproductions of works, as well as an exhaustive critical study, biography, bibliography and an anthology of texts, contributing to settling a historical debt of artistic research in the Canary Islands with numerous creators.
