Hiking – Montañón Negro by Pajaritos

Hiking – Montañón Negro via Pajaritos and Ravine of Water, Gran Canaria, with Bendaya Aventuras.

This is a route that combines important geological, scenic, and ethnographic elements of our summit, covering areas of the municipalities of Valleseco, Moya, and Gáldar.

🌲 Key Points of the Route

1. Montañón Negro
It is part of the Montañón Negro Natural Monument and the Caldera de Los Pinos de Gáldar, being one of the most recent and prominent volcanic cones on the island.
The landscape is dominated by black picón (volcanic ash) which contrasts with the green of the Canary pines and broom.
It is possible to do a small additional section to ascend to the summit (1,665 m) and enjoy wide panoramic views of the summit.

2. Montaña Pajaritos
It is located in the Protected Landscape of Las Cumbres.
From this area, the views are usually spectacular, encompassing Montañón Negro and, on clear days, part of the mountainous areas of the northeast.
On its slopes are lands with rich vegetation, including pine forests and areas that are recovering from fires.

3. Ravine of Water (or Fontanales/Moya Ravine of Waters)
In some versions of the route that pass through Montaña Pajarito and descend towards Fontanales or Moya, one descends to the Fontanales Ravine of Waters.

This ethnographic section is important because it crosses areas historically linked to the Heredades de Aguas (traditional water management entities).

The path usually follows riverbeds, old working trails and cultivated areas, and may pass by historical wells or springs such as the Piletas Well or the Fontanales Water Well.
