Theater — Up with the cleaners! at the Assembly Hall of the Humanities Building of ULPGC, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Next Tuesday, March 24, at the Assembly Hall of the Humanities Building of ULPGC, ¡Arriba las que limpian! will be presented, a play created and performed by chambermaids, cleaners, and care workers from Gran Canaria. Except for the work of associations like Las Kellys, there are no testimonies of how working women have lived and witnessed the growth of the tourism industry in the Canary Islands, despite the fact that this industry has modified their natural environment and has conditioned both their life projects and those of their descendants and the people who migrate here to supply labor to this economic sector. The older ones started in tomato fields, others exchanged hotels for hospitality. Their stories weave a narrative that is not usually told at Tourism Fairs like Fitur, about how local people have experienced the development and tourist exploitation of the Canary Islands.
