In the days leading up to the event, you will receive an email with detailed access instructions: 45 minutes prior, enter with the original identification document (DNI/NIE/Passport) with which you registered, etc. TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT ARE PERSONAL AND DO NOT ALLOW FOR CHANGES TO THE DATE OR THE DETAILS OF THE ATTENDEE. FOR SECURITY REASONS, ONLY ONE (1) PERFORMANCE IS ALLOWED.
“Excuse the Wait” is inspired by seven stories from the collection "Cuentos desde la celda" (Stories from the Cell), published annually by the Mapfre Canarias Foundation and the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions, featuring selected and awarded texts from the short story and micro-story contest "Ángel Guerra" aimed at inmates. The piece explores the multiple forms of waiting that permeate human life. These stories intertwine with new texts arising from the creative process in the theater workshops, especially from letters shared among participants, generating an intimate and choral scenic fabric.
With an austere scenography, where chairs become the main symbolic support, the actors' voices emerge to inhabit a space suspended between boredom and excitement, between slow rhythms and frantic impulses. The play offers a poetic experience that invites the spectator to ask: what color is time?
On stage, the characters reveal their relationship with what they await and what they have lost. Javier acknowledges his immense debt of time in front of a woman waiting outside. Brayan longs to recover the time lost with his children. Guillermo states that the past no longer exists, while Howard remembers that time heals, but leaves scars. Each story is a reflection of that wait which, far from being empty, holds the possibility of transformation.
Because all waiting—however trivial it may seem—can be redeemed if it becomes consciousness.
Access Policy: Entry is not permitted for minors, individuals with a first-degree family connection or visits with inmates in this center, or individuals with pending criminal cases. Furthermore, entry with mobile phones or other electronic devices is not permitted. We provide a locker to leave them at the center's entrance.
The Mapfre Canarias Foundation and the Travesía Sociocultural Association present "Excuse the Wait." A theatrical work inspired by the collection of stories and micro-stories "Cuentos desde la celda." A collective creation performed by a group of inmate actors.
