The society we live in creates in us the constant need for specialist gurus. It no longer surprises us that someone says they have a «coach» for something. Or that for her wedding, our best friend hired a “wedding planner”.
But what happens with death…? Why not have someone organize our death just as a wedding, the birth of a baby, or a bar mitzvah is organized?
Amelia is Raúl's assistant, «the psychologist to the stars». She will accompany him until the last moment, organizing every detail, and following his last wish, for it to be a grand funeral. But Esteban's arrival will open old wounds between father and son… Even in Amelia. Reproaches, jealousy, and memories make up the plot of this shrewd tragicomedy. Can we really organize the death we want?
FUNERAL PLANNER is a text written by Fabián Lomio, with the support of Canarias Escribe Teatro, selected in the 2019 Edition of the Playwriting Laboratory, mentored by playwright Ángel Solo.
With a minimalist aesthetic, both in set design and lighting, the true protagonists of the staging are words and emotions. From the tragic and the comic, eternal antagonists, Funeral Planner talks to us about life, death, and human relationships.
