In 19th-century Madrid, Isidora Rufete grows up amidst material deprivation, but fueled by a dream: to prove that she belongs to a world of nobility and privilege. Convinced she is the heir to a lost lineage, she pursues an ideal that confronts her with the barriers of her time. Between the splendor of the aristocracy and the harshness of popular neighborhoods, her story exposes the fragility of illusions and the power of appearances. Galdós leads us, with a critical and compassionate gaze, to the heart of an unequal society that oscillates between the desire for ascent and the harshness of reality.
