Guided Tour — «Back to the Old Paths: San Lorenzo Dam»

10 April @ 17:00 - 18:30

Guided Tour — Back to the old ways: San Lorenzo Dam, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The San Lorenzo dam, completed in 1904, was the first to be granted a concession in Gran Canaria. Its author, the engineer Juan León y Castillo, architect of the Port of La Luz, designed a mine with a bell-shaped shaft whose mouth opened onto the Guiniguada ravine below the dam. Out of service since 1988 and subsequently refilled, part of León y Castillo's work is still visible.

From the visit site, the quarry from which the stone used in the construction of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria cathedral was extracted can also be observed on the other side of the dam.

Guided tour by Jaime J. González Gonzávez, geographer. Includes expert commentary and transfer by non-adapted bus between the meeting point and the activity location.

It is recommended to wear comfortable footwear and bring water.
