Concert – «Corners of an island»
Concert — «Corners of an Island» at the Juan Ramón Jiménez Municipal Theater, Telde, Gran Canaria.
The Tabaiba Folk Group presents Rincones de una isla, a musical journey through Gran Canaria.
Rincones de una isla is a project by the Tabaiba group that aims to take a musical tour through some natural spaces on the island of Gran Canaria. For this, Tabaiba rescues different songs from their albums like Oro en Paño (2009); Eco de cinco cuerdas (2013) and Poemas del Alisio (2017) that mention representative corners of our island, ranging from natural geological monuments like Roque Bentayga or the Tejeda caldera, beaches like Arinaga or Guayedra, ravines like Veneguera or Guayadeque; towns like Tirajana or Agüimes; or charming urban corners like Calle de los Reyes or Plaza de Santo Domingo in the Vegueta neighborhood. This tour of the island of Gran Canaria aims to highlight the natural and artistic value of our heritage, with special emphasis on its defense, care, and conservation.
Tabaiba's songs will be accompanied by a series of images projected on the stage backdrop, related to each of the places the musical concert travels through. A narrator from Tabaiba will be in charge of transporting the viewer on an imaginary journey through the island by reading a narrative text that will accompany the presentation of each song, carried along by the trade winds and the sirocco.
The compositions for this project are original by Tabaiba, created by members of the group. Some of the lyrics were written by collaborators such as the poet Francisco Tarajano Pérez or Carmen Rivero López.
