It is artists like Steffen Morrison who keep the flame of retro soul sound alive with a current and original twist. His solid proposal has made him a widely recognized voice in Holland.
Steffen grows up with the melodies, movements, and groove of the genre's greats, but also with the harmonious sounds of The Crystals, the rock of The Rolling Stones, and the lyrics of Lou Reed. His musical baggage has a colorful mix of influences to which he has added his own ingredients, seducing a very wide audience and surprising them with each new track.
This singer's story begins in the mid-90s, collaborating and recording with artists of the moment and acting as a vocalist in different groups of the style. The relationship he maintains with the reputed and well-known Norwegian producer Tjeerd Oosterhuis resulted in a first EP, Just Another Man, in September 2016, which includes the hit Do It All Again, entering radio charts and festivals, notably his performance at the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, the city where he resides.
He combined his solo release with his appearance during 2016 and 2017 as the protagonist in the musical I’m a soulman, which narrates the extraordinary story of the legendary record label STAX. After the release of the single All For You in 2017, he offered various shows with his group The Band Of Brothers and continued working on what would be his debut album.
It was in the autumn of 2017 when he locked himself in the studio with his colleagues Andy Platts (Mamas Gun, Young Gun Silverfox), Luke Juby (Emeli Sandé, Leona Lewis), and Tjeerd Oosterhuis (Edsilia Rombley, Candy Dulfer) to create new songs. After weeks of sessions in a studio in the British countryside, he debuted with Movin’ On in March 2018. Eleven delicious tracks that contain a vigorous uptempo full of horns, like the album's title track, to intense soul ballads like We Can Have it All.
He is currently on tour with his band, presenting an energetic live show where he displays all his talents as a true showman, accompanied by his usual band. Steffen has
performed as a guest artist at concerts by Gregory Porter, Joss Stone, Maceo Parker, and Raphael Saadiq
