Days – "Women and Mental Health"

Events – “Women and Mental Health» for International Women's Day 8M, in Gáldar, Gran Canaria.

Talks, workshops, cinema, theater, radio, cultural gatherings, and activities in museums make up a program designed to reflect, share, and continue advancing in equality.

Most activities are free, although they require prior registration due to limited places.

March 3

• 6:00 p.m. – At the Municipal Library, the space «A Room of One's Own by Chona Madera«, we will feature Blanca Hernández Quintana, professor at ULPGC, and with the participants of the reading club of the Department for Equality.

March 4

• 12:00 p.m. – On Radio Gáldar, special March program «Women and mental health», we will feature Leila Morales Alí, psychologist from the Gáldar Health Center.

• 6:00 p.m. – At the Municipal Library, screening of the short documentary «Life Storytellers» of the project «HUB Genera, Faenando Futuro», produced and carried out by Barenta Report Comunicación Social, with the collaboration of Lareira Social and the coordination of the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA Confederation.

March 5

• 17:00 – 19:00 h – At the Municipal Library, workshop «Don't carry it alone: benzodiazepines and gender discomforts» given by the Yrichen Canarian Foundation. Free workshop. Prior registration. Limited places.

March 6

• 10:00 h – On Capitán Quesada street in front of the Municipal Market, an information stand will be set up.

• 11:30 h – Reading of the manifesto «International Women's Day» and musical performance by singer Ana Falcón.

• 19:00 h – At the Municipal Library, book presentation «Who would have thought it would happen to me« by Zeneida Almeida.

March 7

• 8:00 p.m. – At the Guaires Cultural Center, talk by Elsa Punset «What we have conquered and what is yet to come». Afterwards, book signing. Get your ticket for 15€ at: entradas.galdar.es

March 8 «International Women's Day»

• 11:00 a.m. – Departure to the demonstration held on this day demanding women's rights (starting at San Telmo Park towards Santa Ana Square). Afterwards, lunch at Restaurante Mesón Canario (menu price 15 €). Prior registration until March 4.

• 12:00 p.m. – On Radio Gáldar, special March program «Women and eating disorders», we will feature Raquel García Gutiérrez, social worker from the Gull-Lasègue Association.

• 19:00 h – At the Guaires Cultural Center, screening of the film «Sylvia» directed by Christine Jeffs, year 2003, 110 min. Free admission until full capacity.
  Synopsis: The film tells the story of the relationship between poets Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes and its influence on Plath's psychological problems and her transformation into one of the most prominent poets of the twentieth century.

March 12

• 6:00 p.m. – At the Municipal Library, book presentation «Beyond her» by Myriam López.

March 17

• 17:00 – 19:00 h – At the Municipal Library, the workshop begins «Strategies to reduce stress and anxiety» (3 sessions), taught by Sofía García García, therapist and founder of the School of Body-Emotional and Transpersonal Therapy. Free workshop. Limited places. Prior registration.

March 18

• 12:00 p.m. – On Radio Gáldar, special March program «Women and addictions», we will feature Chaxiraxi Medina Rodríguez, psychologist from the Department of Addiction Prevention of Gáldar.

• 19:00 h – At the Guaires Cultural Center, play «Up with the cleaners» (collective theatrical project by domestic workers, care workers, and chambermaids). Free admission, get it at: entradas.galdar.es
  Synopsis: A novice chambermaid starts covering substitutions at the Hotel Deseo del Sur in Gran Canaria. Her colleagues welcome her and teach her all the secrets of the profession: cleaning tricks and the injuries it causes them.

March 19

• 09:00 h – Visit to San Mateo and lunch in the Llanos de la Pez recreational area. Limited places. Prior registration until March 17.

• 18:30 h – At the Consistorial Theater, tribute to professional women in the field of mental health who have excelled in promoting gender equality. During the event, musical performance by Ana Falcón.

March 25

• 12:00 p.m. – On Radio Gáldar, special March program «Round table with professional women in mental health» with the participation of some of the honorees.
