Guided tour — "the Cave of The Fixtures. Landscape, symbolism and memory"
Guided Tour — «The Cave of the Candiles. Landscape, symbolism and memory» in Artenara, Gran Canaria.
In Risco Chapín, within the Tejeda Caldera, lies the Cueva de los Candiles, integrated into the Risco Caído Cultural Landscape and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Artificially excavated into the rock and situated in an elevated position with visual dominance over the surroundings, in symbolic connection with Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, its location points to a space of ritual rather than domestic character. Inside, one of the most unique rock art complexes on the island is preserved: more than 300 engravings of inverted triangles linked to the fertility and reproduction of the indigenous community.
The activity includes free bus transfers departing from Fuente Luminosa in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 09:30 h. Access to the cave involves a section of vertical descent down a cliff with handrails, not suitable for people with vertigo, and requires adequate physical condition for the subsequent ascent.
