Guided tour “Star Sites” of Living Heritage, in Acusa, Artenara, Gran Canaria.

When the solstice arrives, the landscape of Acusa becomes a privileged setting to observe how winter opens its doors over the peaks of Gran Canaria. This enclave, located within the Biosphere Reserve, the Nublo Rural Park and the territory of the Sacred Mountains, today a World Heritage Site, offers one of the most impressive places characterized by its nature and culture.

On these dates, the sun's path adopts its southernmost position in a place that became a strategic point for interpreting the natural calendar. The visual relationship with landmarks such as Bentayga provides a unique context that allows us to understand why the December sunrise was so significant for pre-Hispanic societies.

You will be able to witness the sunrise over the western peak and learn how the ancient inhabitants of Gran Canaria integrated seasonal variations into their social, agricultural, and symbolic organization. The conjunction of astronomy, landscape, and cultural tradition will help us to understand how these communities related to their environment.
